U16 Boys reach Finals of Weston Cup

U16 West Florida Flames Elite boys coached by Juan Garcia had an amazing weekend at the Weston Showcase with the boys playing great team soccer. With one win and two draws in their bracket, the boys were tied with West Pines for first place in their bracket and had to return to the fields on Monday morning to take a round of penalties to determine the winner of the bracket. Goalkeeper Sean Caulfied had an amazing performance stopping all three penalty kicks by West Pines while all three of the Flames scored their PKs sending them into the finals to face two-time state cup champion Real Madrid. The high intensity championship match saw the Flames scoring first on a goal by Jake Vanderluit. Real Madrid equalized before the Flames scored again with three minutes left in the half. Jake Vanderluit took a set piece and it was tipped into the net by Andrew Samuels to put the score 2-1. The intensity never let up in the 2nd half with the Flames dominating most of the game but unable to put the game away due to numerous missed opportunities. With less than a minute left in the match, Real Madrid fired home a rocket shot tying the game before the whistle. The two teams went directly into a round of penalties and Real Madrid was crowned the winner. Although the boys ultimately lost in the final game, they played their hearts out as a true team unit. Congratulations to the U16 boys.
